Tupac Biography in the Works

The book, aptly titled Tupac Shakur: The Authorized Biography, has already received the OK from Pac’s mother, Afeni Shakur.
“Kevin Powell is doing this Tupac Shakur biography with my full blessings,” she said in a statement. “I trust him and his history of documenting my son’s life, and I know he will do the book from his heart.”
When talking about his interest in the project, Powell said, “It is an honor to write what will be the definitive biography on the life and times of Tupac Shakur, one of the greatest icons in hip-hop and pop culture history.”
At press time there was no date on the book’s release.
This isn’t the only Shakur related project in the works. A documentary film entitled, Uncensored and Uncut: The Lost Prison Tapes, surrounding the fallen rapper’s life in prison is set for release on January 26, 2011 and director Antoine Fuqua is working on a biopic about the legendary artist’s last day alive. —Amber McKynzie for XXL

Video: Amar'e Stoudemire recognizes Blake Griffin's dunking greatness

Last night, Griffin eviscerated the Knicks for 44 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists in the Clippers' 124-115 loss to the Knicks. His performance was only rivaled by New York's Amar'e Stoudemire, who tallied 39 points and 11 boards in the win.
Yet the unquestioned highlight of the night for both players occurred at a dead ball. As seen in the video above, Griffin threw down an awesome jam over fellow rookie Timofey Mozgov. Moments later, while Stoudemire was at the line, the Knicks star acknowledged Griffin's posterization with a knowing glance of respect.
With most other players, this moment would just be nice. But when one of the most athletic big men in league history decides to credit his stylistic doppelganger, it's historic, not just pleasant. It's as if Stoudemire is making it clear to everyone that he and Griffin belong in the same sentence. You could also call it a sort of passing of the torch, except Amar'e still looks like he has a lot of dunks left in him.
Remember this moment for as long as you can. All it's missing is Shawn Kemp looking down upon both players in approval from a luxury box while eating an entire cheesecake with his bare hands. Via Ball Don't Lie

Redman: “I Am Officially A Wu-Tang Member”

To set the story straight, yesterday (November 18) XXL spoke to Red, who’s currently on tour overseas, about his upcoming album Reggie, and he had a chance to clear up any uncertainty.
“I am the last member of Wu Tang, like Method Man he’s a part of Def Squad,” the New Jersery-bred rap vet said. “[Meth] has been a part of Def Squad before I was a member. I was like a member. But I was affiliated and I wasn’t signed in, but, I’m definitely—they got my number. Number 11th and I am officially a Wu Tang member right now.”
When asked where the confusion came from, Red charged it to the haters, saying, “You gotta take the haters with it. I didn’t even know there was [confusion] and really I didn’t care. I just go by what my homie told me. I was like kicking in nobody doors or anything like that. It’s just a fam thing. I don’t get into that media crap “yo he is or he isn’t.” It is what it is. If I am I am, if not then not. We still homies.”

Time Runs Out: Wesley Snipes Ordered To Prison For 3 Years After Request For New Tax Evasion Trial Denied

"The defendant Snipes had a fair trial ... The time has come for the judgment to be enforced," U.S. District Judge Terrell Hodges said in his ruling.
Revoking bail for the 48-year-old star of the "Blade" trilogy, the judge ordered him to report to prison as directed by the U.S. Marshals Service or Bureau of Prisons.
It was not clear when or where Snipes would begin serving his time behind bars, however. His lawyer, Daniel Meachum, has said he would appeal if a new trial was denied.
Meachum told the Orlando Sentinel the ruling was shocking.
"Wesley is very disappointed but staying strong and positive," the newspaper quoted Meachum as saying.
Snipes had already lost his appeal of the prison sentence stemming from his 2008 conviction in Hodges' Ocala, Florida, court on three counts of "willful failure to file tax returns" for 1999 through 2001.
Snipes was found not guilty of five other counts in the high-profile felony tax case.
In seeking a new trial, Meachum had argued that jurors in the original trial were biased and that the prosecution's star witness had his own criminal problems.
At his sentencing, prosecutors said Snipes, a resident of Windermere, Florida, had earned more than $38 million since 1999 but had filed no tax returns or paid any taxes through October 2006.
Although he is best known for his roles in action films, Snipes has also had critical success in comedies like "White Men Can't Jump" in 1992. He played the lead in director Spike Lee's interracial drama "Jungle Fever" in 1991 and also played the jazz saxophonist in Lee's "Mo' Better Blues" in 1990.
Eric Thompson, a supervisor in the U.S. Marshals Service office in Orlando, Florida, said the Bureau of Prisons would notify Snipes and his lawyer of a surrender date.
"He'll probably get it by certified mail," Thompson said.
He declined to say what prison was likely to be selected for Snipes except to say that it would not be in Florida.
A listing for Snipes already posted on the Federal Bureau of Prisons website says his prisoner ID or registration number as 43355-018, his location is "in transit" and his release date is "unknown." Via This Is 50
Friday night smackdown: Kevin Garnett's huge skull lump

On the very first play of the Boston Celtics' game against the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder, who were playing without Kevin Durant and Jeff Green (both of whom are battling ankle injuries), Paul Pierce tried to feed Garnett on the low block, where he was being guarded by Serge Ibaka. One of Ibaka's teammates — I'll be honest, I can't tell for sure after repeated replays if it was Russell Westbrookor Thabo Sefolosha — came in from the back-side of the play to defend the entry pass and, on the way up, clocked the Big Ticket in the back of the head with an elbow.
Ibaka came away with the steal, and down the other end of the floor, Westbrook drove for a layup and the game's first points. Garnett was dazed enough on the play that the Celtics called a 20-second timeout on the next possession, just 30 seconds into the game. Ouch! Via Ball Don't Lie

Historic Eric B. and Rakim Reunion at the Long Island Music Hall of Fame Induction Gala

The pair stepped on the stage together to receive their award from music business executive and long-time friend, Bert Padell.
Rakim, originally from Wyandanch, and Eric B., from Queens, seemed emotionally moved by the Long Island Music Hall of Fame Award.
“I want to thank the committee for understanding what we do and giving us this prestigious award. We definitely appreciate it,” Rakim said.
“You know what Rak, we never got a BET award, a Soul Train Award, a Grammy, but guess what. We got a Long Island Music Award!” Eric B. said. Afterwards, the two of them surprised their fans when the two embraced for a hug.
"This was the moment that all hip-hop fans and Gala attendees were waiting to see. Eric B. and Rakim are living legends who produced so many classic songs," LIMHOF Vice Chairman Tom Needham said. "We have all been waiting for this to happen. For rap fans, it is almost as if John Lennon and Paul McCartney had reunited after they broke up the Beatles."
While Eric B. and Rakim didn't perform together, Rakim did a solo set of his hits, including classics like "Eric B. is President" and "Juice (Know the Ledge)."
Other performs at the Long Island Music Hall of Fame's Induction Gala included Eddie Money, Joan Jett, Lou Reed, Eddie Palmieri, Roy Haynes, DJ Johnny Juice, Laurie Anderson and others.

Hedo Turkoglu wants to come home

Which is why the picture, posted above, works so well.
Hedo Turkoglu probably doesn't want to be on the Orlando Magic, and the Magic probably don't want him. It's not just that he'll make an average of eight figures over the course of the contract he signed upon leaving Orlando a year and a half ago; though I'm guessing that helps. He wanted a temperate scene that more closely approximated the European brand of ball that he grew up with (if not his youth spent in Turkey), and I can't blame him. Some of us like cold weather.
Which is why he flirted with Portland, before signing with Toronto. The problem was that his terrible play in Toronto allowed for a trade to Phoenix, which (I'm sorry, Orlando, but this pasty mug was miserable down there) is far more preferable to the dry heat and sports-bars-at-every-turn-with-ranch-dressing-and-light-beer-to-spare environment in Phoenix. Not a fan of either, but intense humidity does tip the scale.
Back to the photo. Thanks to the Orlando Sentinel for nailing this one. It's a great shot, and it'd be a stretch to call Hedo "bemused," here, because he knows what's up.
And, following the picture, Turkoglu went on to miss all eight of his shots from the floor, match his turnovers with assists, and generally continue the decline. Via Magic Basketblog, Orlando Sentinel's Twitter feed & Ball Don't Lie

Dark Man! DMX Locked Up Again After Violating His Probation In Arizona

The troubled rapper just can't seem to stay out of bad situations with the law.
In recent interviews, DMX has looked and sounded clear headed. His recent verse on Swizz Beatz' "Yall Don't Know" is vintage X. So this latest brush with the law is puzzling.
Bommbox is reporting X was arrested last night in Phoenix for failing to check in with his parole officer, a violation of his probation.
Arizona has not been kind to Dark Man. He's had several run ins with Maricopa County Sherriff, Joe Arpaio. A man who takes pride in shaming prisoners, by making them wear pink undershorts and socks. Uses pink towels and sheets as well as pink handcuffs. This latest arrest marks the sixth time X has been locked up in the county.
During a tv interview from an Arizona jail last year, X swore he'd never come back there once he was released. But recently he changed his mind and said he was going to make the state his home.
After this latest arrest, I think he might change his mind about that.
Now word yet on when he will be released. Via This Is 50

Greg Oden just can't catch a break, out for the season

This is the third time Oden has suffered a season-ending knee injury. Last December, he fractured his left patella and missed the rest of the season. He has played in just 82 regular-season games nearly 3 1/2 years after being selected first overall in the 2007 NBA draft ahead of Kevin Durant.
It's tempting to call Oden a bust, but this kind of injury history is colossally bad luck more than any sort of personal failing. Perhaps the Blazers could have done a better job checking Oden's knees before drafting him, but it's hard to find people who were predicting the sort of knee trouble to this extent at the time of the draft.
At this point, it's hard to think that Oden will ever get a real opportunity to fulfill the massive potential that had him pegged as the best American big man prospect in a generation. Only Kenyon Martin has also had microfracture surgery on each knee -- and he still has a great deal of athleticism after returning last season -- but he at least had a pre-injury career to build on when he returned to the court. Now in his fourth season with the Blazers, Oden has yet to create a clear role for himself on the roster. How can you count on a guy who's so rarely available to play?
It's a sad turn of events for a man who by all accounts has worked hard to become a valuable player. Unfortunately, it's unclear if that hard work will ever turn into substantive production.
All we can do now is wish Oden good luck and hope he can complete what would be one of the most impressive comeback stories in the history of the league. But we have to be honest: The odds are not fantastic. Via Ball Don't Lie

Quote Of The Day: 11.17.10
I was asleep. I was watching the whole “Decision” thing with LeBron, and once he said he was going to Miami, I fell asleep. Then I woke up around three, four in the morning and I had a million text messages! They all said, “Oh man, we’re here for you … We’ll come out and see you…” I’m thinking, “What is everybody talking about?” I turned on NBA TV and it said, “Beasley traded to the Timberwolves.“

110 in a 55? C'mon Andrew Bynum!

There are these things called "track days," in which people who have come into contact with a great deal of money (and, as a consequence, very expensive cars) can rent out a track for a day to drive, said cars.
And, after a stern talking-to with the people that run the racetrack about how to be safe and what to do in each particular apex, you can just race to your heart's content. It comes with a fee, of course, but nothing that would be prohibitive to someone making eight figures a year, pre-tax.
Like, you, Andrew Bynum.
And, look, I'll even hook you up with a link to an organization that might interest you, Andrew, in your neck of the woods. Laguna Seca, even. Mmm-hmm.
I'm passing this along so you won't put yourself and untold others' lives in danger by doing stupid crap like this:
(From -- I know, I know -- TMZ)
Law enforcement sources tell us Bynum was burning rubber in his customized 2010 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano on October 29 -- when cops clocked him going 110 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Bynum was eventually ticketed for speeding -- but dude was lucky he wasn't hauled to the slammer.
Law enforcement sources tell us the only reason he wasn't nailed on a reckless driving charge was because traffic was light and the NBA star wasn't weaving in and out of lanes.
The 599 is a fantastic car, and I can't imagine the temptation it takes to keep it within the range of the speed limit. Yes, I can, actually. Millions of people tend to do it, every day. In all manner of vehicles. Via Ball Don't Lie
Michael Jackson Album: ''I Think Its Keeping His Legacy Alive''

'Kon, whose "Hold My Hand" collaboration with Jackson dropped on Monday as the LP's first single, insists that releasing new music is actually a way of honoring the icon.
"I think that's probably will's opinion," Akon told TMZ of the Black Eyed Peas frontman's statement. "Me personally, I think that's keeping his legacy alive, if you ask me. I don't see anything disrespectful about it. He got his people taking care of it. We all did records that we actually worked on together on the album. These records would have come out whether he was alive or dead, so I think this actually to helps keep his legacy alive. I honestly disagree with that."The hip-hop star explained that he hopes "Hold My Hand" will reach "another level" and be properly distributed as he and the Jackson team had originally planned.
Last week, will.i.am slammed the project, suggesting that there's no honor in the upcoming release, due in stores December 14. "Whoever put it out and is profiting off of it, I want to see how cold they are," he told EW. "To say that what [Michael] contributed during his life wasn't enough. He just wasn't any ordinary artist. He was a hands-on person. To me it's disrespectful. There's no honoring."
Not only did Akon call his sessions with MJ "amazing," but he also gushed that it was nothing short of a dream come true saying, "He was a very incredible person, very creative. That was really a dream come true on my end. I enjoyed every moment of it." (MTV) Via This Is 50

Bill Walton returns to TV broadcasts in a blaze of glory

That's why you should miss Bill Walton's regular presence on the airwaves, even if (unlike me) you've never been a fan of his work. Walton works a game like none other, injecting hyperbole and an expansive knowledge of the world at-large into his commentary. He makes things interesting.
Thankfully, Walton is calling a few games this season for the Sacramento Kings' local broadcasts. He had his first assignment this weekend for the Kings-Suns game in Phoenix, and it was a doozy. Tom Ziller reports for FanHouse:
Bill did not bring a suit or any shirt with buttons to Phoenix. Walton wore a long-sleeved t-shirt to the gym to work the game; luckily, an NBA official on hand had an official NBA striped polo in a very large size for Walton to put over his long-sleeved tee. [...]
So basically, Walton is treating this gig exactly [how] most teenagers treat part-time jobs: with complete apathy.
Ah, but Walton's apathy is so much more interesting than that of the league's other announcers. Just check out this highlight, also via Ziller:
"Well that's only because Neil Young didn't play basketball." Walton responds to [Jerry] Reynolds' assertion Steve Nash is the greatest Canadian basketball player ever.
Big Red, to paraphrase your beloved Grateful Dead, let your inspiration flow in broken rhyme, suggesting rhythm.
Sadly, Walton's back and general joint pain means he can only calls games in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and other select contests via satellite, so his next broadcast will probably be Thanksgiving (unlikely, but at Clippers) or Dec. 3 (at Lakers).
It's good to have Walton back. The league needs unique personalities wherever they can get them, and he certainly qualifies as one. He's one of God's own prototypes: too weird to live, and too rare to die. Via Ball Don't Lie

Is Floyd Next? Manny Pacquiao Destroys Antonio Margarito To Capture WBC Super-Welterweight Title

Filipino hero Pacquiao won on all three judges' scorecards as he inflicted a savage beating on Margarito and extended his winning streak to 13 fights.
''He is really strong,'' Pacquiao said of Margarito. ''I never expected him to be as strong as he was. He hurt me in the body and in the face. I am so lucky tonight.''
Pacquiao has shown little sign of losing speed and power as he moves up in weight to fight bigger and stronger opponents, but he failed to score the knockout on Saturday.
Even so, the bout didn't turn into the same kind of dull affair as Pacquiao's fight against Joshua Clottey at the same venue in March.
Unlike Clottey, Margarito came to fight. He paid the price with a nasty gash under the right eye and a huge welt that almost closed his left eye.
At one point in the 11th round Pacquiao seemed to look towards referee Laurence Cole as if he was trying to get the ref to stop the fight.
''I feel for my opponent,'' Pacquiao said. ''His eyes [were swollen and cut] and bloody face. I wanted the ref to look at that. In 12th round I wasn't looking for the knockout. My trainer said take it easy.''
Pacquiao, 31, entered the ring at 67.13kg while Margarito beefed up from 68.04kg at weigh-in to almost 75kg by fight time.
Pacquiao dominated Margarito from the outset to capture his eighth title in as many weight classes. He is also the first Asian to hold four or more major world titles.
The Mexican had his moments on Saturday and hurt Pacquiao in the eighth round when he landed a left uppercut on the button that snapped back Pacquiao's head.
Margarito was most effective when he had Pacquiao on the ropes but he failed to capitalise on his big height and weight advantage.''
We were going good until I got caught,'' Margarito said. ''And then that is when the problems started.''
Asked if he thought of quitting because of the punishment he was taking, he said, ''No, no way. I am Mexican and we fight until the end.''
Pacquiao earned close to $15 million while Margarito collected about $6 million.
It was Margarito's first fight in the United States since a one-year suspension after he was caught with plaster-filled hand wraps in his gloves before a fight against Shane Mosley.
Controversy erupted after a weight-loss supplement was reportedly seen in Margarito's dressing room before the fight, with Pacquiao's team demanding that he be tested for possible banned substances. Via This Is 50
