Nike Air Force 1 (GS) “4th of July” Edition

This Sunday is Independence Day aka 4th of July, so as usual, Nike acknowledges the holiday by releasing 4th of July themed footwear. Today we offer you a first look at the Independence Day Air Force 1. These sneakers scream U-S-A with the traditional red, white, and blue color scheme. Besides the USA colorway, the most notable feature is the USA flag hologram seen on the heel tab.

Fellas, don’t these remind you of the promo All-Star AF1’s that Nike released a few years ago? However, this particular Air Force 1 was only made in kids sizes, which means ladies can participate in this release. Perhaps the kiddies and ladies can rock these to the 4th of July cookouts on Sunday. The shoes are officially set to launch this Saturday, July 3rd at Nike accounts. Via The Shoe Game

Game to pay attention to: Celtics vs. Lakers

Boston at Los Angeles Lakers; series tied, 3-3

There are no grades, here. I'm not asking you to pay attention to these games because of some eventual playoff implication, or because you need to see a certain player his lowest ebb before a new coach comes in and everything turns out A-OK. Outside of the occasional -- there's-nothing-on -- blips? I'm tossing you these nightly suggestions because, as an ardent NBA observer, I've got a good idea as to what entertains. I want you to enjoy what's given me so much. Pay attention, because you'll have fun.

And I'm assuring you, even if one team drops another by 20 in a few hours, that you'll have fun tonight.

It's a Game 7, for the NBA championship. A winner-take-all, best-of one, for the ring. A one game validation on what we've been paying attention to since October. Can you dig that? October!

And it gets better. For one, the Celtics and the Lakers are playing, giving us another recent re-introduction to this game's greatest rivalry. We've got about 15 teams on either side of the Conference designation, and somehow the two most storied franchises in this league are due to meet in the Finals for the second time in three years. And they've taken it to seven games, this time. Via Ball Don't Lie

Glen Davis and Nate Robinson are a couple of cartoon characters

In the midst of all of Glen Davis' celebrations and slobbering, his little buddy Nate Robinson decided he'd like to get involved with the festivities. A foot shorter and a hundred pounds lighter, Nate hopped on the back and shoulders of Big Baby for a little piggyback ride around the parquet floor of TD Garden in Game 4. It was, like, SO cute.

Not only were the two confidently expressing their bromantic feelings during the game, they were also playing a key role in the Celtics' series-evening victory. And since they played a big part in an NBA Finals win, the two Boston reserves got to share a table at the postgame press conference.

It was there that the two debuted their comedy act. From ESPN's Chris Forsberg:

You were on my back?" Davis asked Robinson as they sat next to each other at their joint postgame news conference.

"You didn't even notice," replied Robinson. "We're like Shrek and Donkey. You can't separate us."

Davis smiled broadly and added, "You shouldn't have let us two get up here."

Quite the contrary, Glen. I think we're all very glad you two were up there, cracking wise and marketing Dreamworks pictures. I'd say the people who let you two up there made a pretty good choice.

It was also a pretty good reference by Nate Robinson, even if it kind of revealed him to be the only 26-year-old who paid to see "Shrek Forever After." He could have gone with Buzz Lightyear and Woody from the "Toy Story" franchise, but that doesn't really make sense because neither of them wears a spacesuit. Another good analogy would have been Sulley and Mike Wazowski from "Monsters, Inc.," but that came out almost 10 years ago.

Shrek and Donkey is perfect — it fits, it's current and it makes for a great Photoshopped picture. Clearly Nate Robinson would be an excellent blogger. Let's make this happen. Via Ball Don't Lie

“WILD BOAR” TRAINER SC 2010 FRIENDS & FAMILY EXCLUSIVE

His name is actually Vincent, though I’ve never once heard anyone call him so. And when Vincent was a young boy growing up Bessemer, Alabama, long before his dual sport All-Star career, he was known by everyone in his family to be a constant troublemaker. It didn’t take long for the family to give him a nickname, and for the 8th youngest of ten Jackson children, he was often described as acting like a “wild boar hog,” or as his mother pronounced it, a “wild bo’hog.” Eventually the nickname was simply shortened to “Bo,” and stuck ever since.

For Nike Athletic Training Product Line Manager Esaie Witherspoon, that story was too good not to tell as the category continually celebrates Bo’s legacy and career. Just how Bo Jackson got his legendary nickname often goes untold. “[The inspiration] was from that story we heard about Bo,” says Witherspoon. “His mom supposedly said he was wild like a bo’hog and that’s how he got the name ‘Bo,’ so we took the story and twisted it just a little so we could make the connection.”

As a result, the pictured “Wild Boar” Trainer SC 2010 was made for Bo Jackson, along with friends and family, to help celebrate the origin of his name. A rich deep olive full grain leather can be found along the shoe’s toe, collar and heel, while a textured brown leather wraps around the shoe’s dominant rand overlay and eyestay. Notice the “Wild Boar” stitch detailing along the heel of both shoes, as well as the orange contrast stitching atop the shoe’s ankle and toe. As for the contrasting Flywire strands that are seemingly out of place? It’s a detail inspired by a wild boar’s two massive tusks. Via Sole Collector
