Lil Wayne is finally ready to unleash his lead off single from his highly anticipated, forthcoming album, Tha Carter IV. Weezy shared the information earlier this morning (December 14) during his first full-blown interview since being released from Riker’s Island jail last month for gun charges.
The New Orleans rap star called into DJ Drama’s radio show on Shade 45 to discuss his new song, “6’7”.” ““It’s a monster,” Wayne said of the track. “It’s a beast. Hopefully it shows people where I’m at lyrically.”
The Young Money leader confirmed that the song was produced by Bangladesh, who also was responsible for “A Milli” from Tha Carter III. He also revealed that YM signee Cory Gunz will also be appearing on the track, which he promised would be dropping sometime this week.
As for why haven’t we heard it yet? Weezy blames his potty mouth. “We were supposed to put it out today,” he said. “The only reason we didn’t put it out today is because we’re trying to make a good radio edit, because I hate when radio stations make their own radio edits, it’s the worst.”
The song will be the first offering from Tha Carter IV, which Wayne hopes to drop in February of 2011.
During the conversation, Birdman, Jr. also promoted his appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend. As previously reported, he will be joining Eminem as the musical guest on SNL this weekend, where together they will performing “No Love.”
In addition, he said that he will be rocking with Nicki Minaj this Thursday for Last Call with Carson Daly. No word yet on when that appearance will air. —Elan Mancini for XXL
