This Monday, Rafael Nadal won the U.S. Open to became just the seventh men’s tennis player to complete the Career Grand Slam, an accomplishment in professional tennis where the athlete has won each major tournament in his or her career. His win at the Open also made him the second individual to complete the Golden Slam, which tacks on an Olympic Gold Medal. Nadal not only dominated on his way to his first career U.S. Open win, he got people interested in actual tennis shoes again. In addition to the Nike Court Ballistec 2.3 colorway that sold quickly after Rafa’s win, Nadal himself assisted in the design of this “Tennis Ball” themed Court Ballistec 2.2.
The shoe feature a yellow green felt upper that mimics a tennis ball. White is used for the leather Swoosh, as well as sections of the midsole and outsole. Black is spotted on branding on the midsole, tongue and heel. These released in very limited quantities at the U.S. Open. No word on whether or not we’ll see additional availability in the future.
